for Brass Ensemble and Percussion
Blast It! is a captivating exploration of brass instruments and percussion, revealing their versatility across diverse musical styles. From the bold brass fanfare that opens the piece to the jazz music interplay with all of the instruments.
Transitioning into a passage inspired by Thai folk-dance, the music takes on a playful energy, infusing Thai cultural elements. Suddenly, a jazz section emerges, driven by lively drumming and dazzling ensemble melodies. Each brass family takes a turn in the spotlight, showcasing their unique tones and virtuosity in a musical exchange.
Amidst the excitement, a softer, slower interlude offers a moment of reflection, with chorales featuring polychords and dissonances adding depth to the composition. Building towards a climactic peak, the music erupts into a jazz passage before returning to the joyous themes of the Thai folk-dance for a conclusion.
Blast It! was commissioned by Mahidol Brass and Percussion Faculty to be performed in the Thailand International Brass and Percussion Conference 2024.
