จากในอดีต เขาเป็นเพียงเด็กหนุ่มมัธยมต้นที่ชอบเรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่และสนใจในกิจกรรมสร้างทักษะหลังเลิกเรียน จนวันหนึ่งได้มีโอกาสเข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิกวงโยธวาทิตของโรงเรียนและฝึกซ้อมเรื่อยมาซึ่งตอนนั้น เลือกทำเพราะชอบโดยไม่เคยคาดคิดว่าสิ่งที่ชอบจะเปลี่ยนเป็นอาชีพเลี้ยงดูตัวเองได้ในปัจจุบัน
เชื่อได้ว่า คนส่วนใหญ่ล้วนมีงานอดิเรก หรือ กิจกรรมยามว่างให้ทำตามความชื่นชอบ ความถนัดของแต่ละบุคคล ซึ่งงานอดิเรกนั้นเกิดจากมาจากความชอบ ทำโดยไม่มีแรงกดดัน สร้างความเพลิดเพลิน
และเติมพลังใจให้ตัวเองในช่วงเวลาที่เครียด ๆ ได้
เช่นเดียวกับ วิษณ์กมล ชัยวานิชศิริ หรือ โก้ ที่ชื่นชอบการทำกิจกรรมยามว่างมาตั้งแต่เด็ก อย่างการเข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิกวงโยธวาทิตโรงเรียนก็เช่นกัน ซึ่งเดิมที เขาไม่เคยคิดว่าการได้ทำในสิ่งที่รัก มีความสุขกับสิ่งที่ชอบ
จะนำมาเป็นอาชีพได้ แต่เมื่อระยะเวลาผ่านไป ใจผูกพันและตระหนักเห็นคุณค่าในสิ่งที่ทำ สุดท้าย มันได้กลายเป็นอาชีพที่สร้างทั้งรายได้หลัก และรายได้เสริม อย่างการเป็นอาจารย์ด้านดนตรีสากล เป็นวาทยกร และนักประพันธ์เพลง ที่ได้กล่อมเกลาให้เขากลายเป็นหนุ่มมากความสามารถและมีผลงานเป็นที่ประจักษ์ในปัจจุบัน
จุดเริ่มต้นของการ ‘รักเสียงดนตรี’ และ ‘แบ่งปันความรู้’ มาจากการเป็นสมาชิกวงโยธวาทิต
“ผมโชคดีตรงที่ครอบครัวของผมสนับสนุนการลงเรียนคอร์สต่าง ๆ มาตั้งแต่เด็ก เช่น การลงคอร์สเรียนเปียโน, ลงคอร์สโปรแกรมเรียนคอมพิวเตอร์ จึงทำให้ผมติดนิสัยรักการทำกิจกรรมและแสวงหาการเรียนรู้ทักษะใหม่ ๆ อยู่เสมอ ฉะนั้น พอเข้าสู่ช่วงมัธยมต้น ผมจึงเลือกเข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิกวงโยธวาทิต ซึ่งเป็นกิจกรรมเสริมทักษะหลังเลิกเรียนครับ”
ในตอนนั้น โก้รู้แค่ว่าชอบจึงอยากลอง แต่ด้วยระยะเวลาที่ได้คลุกคลีอยู่กับวงโยธวาทิต ตั้งแต่ม.ต้นจนม.ปลาย มันกลายเป็นความผูกพันทั้งกับเพื่อนร่วมวง และการเห็นคุณค่าในการอยู่วงโยธวาทิต เพราะเขาได้เรียนรู้หลายอย่าง ทั้ง การจัดการบริหารยามอยู่กับคนหมู่มาก การรู้จักการวางแผน ตลอดจน การสร้างวินัยให้ตัวเอง และเป็นคนมีความรับผิดชอบมากขึ้น พอเขาตระหนักรู้ถึงข้อดี และหลงใหลในเสียงดนตรีบรรเลง ช่วงม.5เขาฝึกซ้อมและขวนขวายหาความรู้อย่างจริงจัง เพราะรู้แน่ชัดแล้วว่า เขาจะเลือกเส้นทางชีวิตบนเส้นทางสายนี้และยึดมันเป็นอาชีพให้ได้ เขาจึงเริ่มวางแผนและศึกษาข้อมูลเพื่อที่จะเข้าเรียนยังมหาวิทยาลัยด้านดนตรีโดยเฉพาะ แต่ทว่า เขาเองก็รู้ตัวว่าไม่ถนัดด้านการเล่นดนตรีนัก แต่สนุกกับการได้เขียนและแต่งเพลง การอำนวยเพลงให้วงต่าง ๆ ตลอดจนมีความสุขกับการให้วิชา มอบความรู้แก่รุ่นน้องมากกว่า ดังนั้น เขาจึงตัดสินใจเลือกสาขาการประพันธ์ดนตรี วิทยาลัยดุริยางคศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล และสอบติดเป็นลำดับต่อมา
“พอมองย้อนกลับไป มันทำให้ผมรู้ว่า กิจกรรมหลังเลิกเรียน หรือ งานอดิเรกสำคัญมากทีเดียวมันจุดประกายความคิดให้เราค้นพบความชอบของตัวเองที่แท้จริงและสามารถวางแผนชีวิตให้มันกลายเป็นอาชีพให้เราได้ด้วย”
เพราะเป็น ‘เด็กกิจกรรม’ จึงเลือกส่งผลงานเข้าร่วมประกวดโครงการรางวัลยุวศิลปินไทย ของมูลนิธิเอสซีจี
พอเข้าสู่ระดับมหาวิทยาลัย โก้ยังคงเป็นหนุ่มรักกิจกรรมเช่นเคย เขาเสาะหากิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ที่น่าสนใจซึ่งหนึ่งในนั้น คือ การลองเข้าร่วมโครงการประกวดยุวศิลปินไทย สาขาการประพันธ์ดนตรี โดย มูลนิธิเอสซีจี
“แม้ผมจะไม่ใช่แฟนตัวยงด้านสายประกวดเท่าไหร่ แต่การที่ผมเลือกเข้าร่วมประกวดโครงการนี้ เพราะครั้งหนึ่งเคยมีโอกาสไปดูบรรยากาศการตัดสินรอบสุดท้าย ซึ่งจัดขึ้นที่มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ประกอบกับเห็นรุ่นน้อง รุ่นพี่ที่เรียนสายนี้หลายคนส่งผลงานเข้าร่วมโครงการนี้กันเยอะมาก มันเลยทำให้ผมมีไฟและแรงบันดาลใจอยากลองส่งบ้าง ซึ่งผมดีใจที่ตัดสินใจร่วมส่งผลงานครั้งนั้น เพราะผมได้รับรางวัลยอดเยี่ยม สาขาการประพันธ์ดนตรี อีกทั้ง ยังได้มีโอกาสไปทัศนศึกษาที่ประเทศเยอรมนีและประเทศฝรั่งเศส ได้ไปดูพิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะต่าง ๆและได้ไปดูงาน Documenta งานแสดงศิลปะสมัยใหม่และศิลปะร่วมสมัยที่สำคัญที่สุดงานหนึ่งของโลก จากนิสัยส่วนตัวที่ชอบเรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่ ๆ อยู่แล้ว พอไปทัศนศึกษาที่ต่างประเทศครั้งนั้น จึงทำให้ผมเปิดโลก และได้ประสบการณ์ในชีวิตที่ดีมาก ๆ ครับ”
ข้อดีของการชอบเรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่ คือ การมีความรู้แบบกว้าง ตามฉบับ Generalist
“จากมุมมองส่วนตัวผมเชื่อว่า การเป็น Specialist หรือคนที่มีความรู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านใดด้านหนึ่งเป็นพิเศษก็เป็นเรื่องที่ดี แต่ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่า ยุคนี้การเป็น Generalist หรือมีความรู้เชิงกว้าง ก็เป็นสิ่งที่จำเป็นไม่แพ้กัน เพราะมันสามารถช่วยให้เราปรับตัว
3 บทบาท ด้านดนตรีสากล หลอมรวมกัน เป็นเขาในทุกวันนี้
ในปัจจุบัน โก้ ถือเป็นหนุ่มที่มีความสามารถรอบด้าน เพราะเขามีหลายบทบาทที่ทำอยู่ไปพร้อม ๆ กัน ทั้งการทำอาชีพหลัก อย่างการเป็นอาจารย์ด้านดนตรีสากลที่มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล และอาชีพเสริมคือ วาทยากร
และ นักประพันธ์เพลง ซึ่งเขาไม่สามารถตัดสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งออกไปจากชีวิตได้เลย เพราะ 3 บทบาทนี้หลอมรวมให้ชีวิตเขากลมกล่อมลงตัวที่สุดแล้ว
“ผมมีความสุข กับทุกบทบาทที่ทำอยู่ อย่างการเป็นอาจารย์ ผมรู้สึกดีที่ได้แบ่งปันความรู้ให้แก่เด็ก ๆและได้เห็นพัฒนาการของเขาที่มีการเติบโตมากขึ้น ส่วนการอำนวยเพลง หรือ การเป็นวาทยกร ผมมองว่ามันเป็นความท้าทายตรงที่ผมต้องรับผิดชอบวงดนตรีในด้านการบรรเลงทั้งหมด ซึ่งผมจะต้องหาวิธีในการควบคุมและโน้มน้าวใจคนหมู่มากที่ต่างความคิดกันอย่างไรให้มาอยู่ภายใต้สิ่งที่เรากำกับเพียงหนึ่งเดียว
ส่วนสุดท้าย ในเรื่องของการประพันธ์เพลง ผมมีความสุขที่ได้สร้างสรรค์ท่วงทำนองออกมา ผมมองว่าการประพันธ์เพลงมันมีเสน่ห์ตรงที่การถ่ายทอดความรู้สึกแบบนามธรรมไปสู่ผู้ฟัง ที่แต่ละคนอาจรับฟังดนตรีไปตามแต่ประสบการณ์ของแต่ละคน อย่างเช่น หากผมประพันธ์เพลงด้วยท่วงทำนองสนุกสนาน ร่าเริง แต่บางคนที่รับฟัง เขาอาจรู้สึกถึงความเกรี้ยวกราด รุนแรง ในบทเพลงก็ได้ ซึ่งมันคือ เส่นห์และความซับซ้อนของดนตรีบรรเลงนี้ครับ โดยผลงานเพลงของผมส่วนใหญ่ มักได้แรงบันดาลใจมาจาก การดูสถาปัตยกรรม วรรณกรรมรวมถึงจิตรกรรม อย่างเช่น เพลงโหมโรงรัตนโกสินทร์ ผมได้แรงบันดาลใจมาจากการอ่านนวนิยายอิงประวัติศาสตร์ รัตนโกสินทร์ ของ ‘ว.วินิจฉัยกุล’ ซึ่งเป็นการเล่าเรื่องในยุคกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนต้น”
พาตัวเองไปอยู่ในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ดี มีโอกาสสำเร็จไปอีกขั้น
จากอดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน เขาตระหนักรู้ว่าสิ่งหนึ่งที่เป็นตัวขับเคลื่อนให้เขาได้รับโอกาสดี ๆ นั่นคือ การพาตัวเองมาอยู่ในสังคมที่ดี มีคุณภาพ รายล้อมไปด้วยเพื่อน รุ่นพี่ และครอบครัวที่ดี พร้อมให้คำปรึกษา และสนับสนุนเต็มที่ แต่ถ้าใครที่ไม่มีโอกาสจะพาตัวเองไปอยู่ในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ดีได้ เขาเชื่อว่า เราสามารถสร้างสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ดีนั้นขึ้นมาได้ด้วยตัวเอง ผ่านการไปสถานที่ที่ดี คัดสรรสิ่งที่อ่าน เลือกผู้คนที่เราคบ เพราะการอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่ดีจะเอื้อให้เราพัฒนาศักยภาพได้อย่างเต็มที่และมีโอกาสสำเร็จได้มากขึ้น
เรียนรู้อย่างอยู่รอด ด้วยการ ‘มีวินัย ‘ใฝ่เรียนรู้’ ‘ลดอัตตา ละตัวตน’
“โดยส่วนตัว สิ่งที่ทำให้อยู่รอดในปัจจุบัน และเป็นสิ่งที่ผมยึดถือมาโดยตลอด นั่นคือ การมีวินัย ไม่ผลัดวันประกันพรุ่ง ไม่ว่าผมจะทำอาชีพหลักหรืออาชีพเสริม ผมจะตั้งค่าเป็นกิจวัตรประจำวัน อย่างเช่น ถ้าผมต้องการประพันธ์เพลงในความยาว 8 นาที ผมจะแจกแจงชัดเจนว่าในแต่ละวัน ผมต้องประพันธ์เพลงไปกี่วินาที ผมจะค่อย ๆ ทำไปตามตารางที่กำหนด ผมจะไม่เทหมดหน้าตัก เพราะโดยส่วนตัวการทุ่มเกิน 100% อาจทำให้หมดไฟได้ง่ายด้วย ส่วนต่อมา คือ การศึกษาหาความรู้อยู่ตลอดเพื่อนำมาพัฒนาตัวเองให้เป็นคนที่มีศักยภาพและมีโอกาสต่อยอด
ในการสร้างสรรค์สิ่งใหม่ ๆ ได้ และสิ่งสุดท้ายเป็นอีกปัจจัยสำคัญ คือ การลดอีโก้ในตัวเอง มีความถ่อมตน ถึงแม้ว่าหนึ่งในบทบาท ผมจะเป็นอาจารย์ แต่ขณะเดียวกัน หากเด็กที่ผมสอนเขาเก่งอะไรเป็นพิเศษ ผมจะเข้าไปขอความรู้
แก่เด็ก ๆ โดยไม่รีรอ เพราะผมเชื่อว่า การลดอัตตาในตัวเอง ไม่คิดว่าตัวเก่งที่สุดหรือรู้ทุกอย่างมันจะเปิดโอกาส
ให้ได้เรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่ ๆ และยังสร้างความสัมพันธ์อันดีต่อคนรอบข้างด้วยครับ”
ฝันใหญ่ได้ แต่ต้องลงมือทำ เพื่อจะได้เห็น ‘ผลผลิตของความฝัน’
ท้ายนี้ โก้ยังคงเชื่อมั่นว่า ความฝัน จะเป็นแค่ความฝัน หากไม่ลงมือทำอะไรเลย ฉะนั้น ความฝันก็เปรียบเหมือนการปลูกต้นไม้ที่เราค่อย ๆ บ่มเพาะมันไปทีละนิดอย่างใจเย็น หมั่นรดน้ำพรวนดินอย่างสม่ำเสมอ และมีวินัยจริงจังในการดูแลรักษาผลผลิตของความฝัน ที่สำคัญ เราควรพาความฝันไปอยู่ในสถานที่ที่เอื้อต่อการเติบโตด้วยเช่นกัน และแม้ว่า ความฝัน อาจไม่สำเร็จในชั่วข้ามคืน แต่หากเราเชื่อมั่นในตัวเอง มุ่งมั่นบ่มเพาะความฝันอย่างเต็มที่ สักวันหนึ่งมันจะเติบใหญ่และสำเร็จได้

In the past, he was just a middle school boy who loved learning new things and was interested in after-school skill-building activities. One day, he had the opportunity to join the school’s marching band and practiced continuously. At that time, he did it simply because he liked it, never imagining that what he loved would turn into a profession that supports him today.
It’s believed that most people have hobbies or leisure activities they do based on their individual preferences and talents. These hobbies stem from passion, are done without pressure, create enjoyment, and help recharge one’s spirit during stressful times.
The same is true for Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri, or Khoe, who has loved engaging in leisure activities since childhood, such as joining his school’s marching band. Initially, he never thought that doing what he loved and being happy with his interests could become a career. But as time passed, he became deeply attached and realized the value in what he was doing. Ultimately, it became a profession that generates both a primary and a supplementary income, through his roles as a Western music lecturer, a conductor, and a composer, which have molded him into the multi-talented young man with acclaimed works he is today.
The starting point of ‘loving music’ and ‘sharing knowledge’ came from being a member of the marching band.
“I was lucky that my family supported me in taking various courses since I was a child, such as piano lessons and computer programming courses. This instilled in me a habit of loving activities and always seeking to learn new skills. So, when I entered middle school, I chose to join the marching band, which was an after-school skill-enhancing activity.”
At that time, Khoe only knew that he liked it and wanted to try. But the time he spent immersed in the marching band, from middle school through high school, forged a bond with his bandmates and a realization of the value of being in the band. He learned many things, including managing a large group of people, planning, as well as building self-discipline and becoming more responsible. When he recognized these benefits and became enchanted by the sound of instrumental music, he began to practice and seek knowledge earnestly in his junior year of high school, knowing for certain that he would choose this path in life and make it his profession. He then started planning and researching to enter a university specifically for music. However, he also knew he wasn’t particularly skilled at playing an instrument but enjoyed writing and composing music, conducting for various bands, and found happiness in teaching and imparting knowledge to his juniors. Therefore, he decided to major in Music Composition at the College of Music, Mahidol University, and was subsequently accepted.
“Looking back, it made me realize how important after-school activities or hobbies are. They can spark ideas that help us discover our true passions and allow us to plan our lives so that they can become our profession.”
Because he was an ‘activities kid,’ he chose to submit his work to the SCG Foundation’s Young Thai Artist Award competition.
Upon entering university, Khoe continued to be a young man who loved activities. He sought out various interesting activities, one of which was participating in the Young Thai Artist Award competition in the Music Composition category, organized by the SCG Foundation.
“Although I’m not a big fan of competitions, I chose to participate in this one because I once had the chance to see the atmosphere of the final round, which was held at Mahidol University. I also saw many juniors and seniors in my field submitting their work to this program. It ignited a fire and inspiration in me to try submitting my own work. I’m glad I decided to participate that time because I received the Excellence Award in Music Composition. I also had the opportunity to go on a study trip to Germany and France, where I visited various art museums and attended Documenta, one of the world’s most important exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Since I already have a personal habit of loving to learn new things, that study trip abroad opened up my world and gave me a very good life experience.”
The advantage of loving to learn new things is having broad knowledge, in the style of a Generalist.
“From my personal perspective, I believe that being a Specialist, or someone with expert knowledge in a particular field, is a good thing. But it’s undeniable that in this era, being a Generalist, or having broad knowledge, is just as necessary because it can help us adapt.”
Three roles in Western music have merged to become who he is today.
Currently, Khoe is considered a multi-talented young man because he juggles several roles simultaneously: his main profession as a Western music lecturer at Mahidol University, and his supplementary careers as a conductor and a composer. He cannot cut any of these from his life, as these three roles blend together to make his life perfectly balanced.
“I am happy with every role I play. As a teacher, I feel good sharing knowledge with students and seeing their development and growth. As for conducting, I see it as a challenge where I have to take full responsibility for the musical performance of the ensemble. I must find ways to control and persuade a large group of people with different ideas to come under my single direction.
Finally, regarding composition, I am happy creating melodies. I see the charm in composing as the act of conveying abstract feelings to listeners, who may interpret the music according to their own experiences. For example, if I compose a piece with a fun, cheerful melody, some listeners might perceive aggression or intensity in the music. This is the charm and complexity of instrumental music. Most of my musical works are inspired by architecture, literature, and painting. For instance, the ‘Rattanakosin Overture’ was inspired by reading the historical novel ‘Rattanakosin’ by ‘V. Vinichayakul,’ which tells a story from the early Rattanakosin era.”
Placing yourself in a good environment is another step towards success.
From the past to the present, he has realized that one of the driving forces that has brought him good opportunities is placing himself in a good, high-quality community, surrounded by good friends, seniors, and a family who are ready to offer advice and full support. But for those who don’t have the chance to be in a good environment, he believes that we can create that good environment for ourselves by going to good places, carefully selecting what we read, and choosing the people we associate with. Being in a good environment will enable us to develop our potential to the fullest and have a greater chance of success.
Learn to survive by having ‘Discipline,’ an ‘Eagerness to learn,’ and ‘Reducing ego and self.’
“Personally, the thing that helps me survive today, and something I have always held onto, is having discipline and not procrastinating. Whether it’s my main career or a side job, I make it a part of my daily routine. For example, if I need to compose an 8-minute piece of music, I will clearly break down how many seconds of music I need to compose each day. I will gradually work according to the schedule I’ve set. I won’t go all-in at once, because personally, I feel that giving more than 100% can easily lead to burnout. The next thing is to constantly seek knowledge to develop myself into a more capable person with opportunities to build upon and create new things. And the last thing, another important factor, is to reduce my own ego and have humility. Even though one of my roles is as a teacher, if a student I’m teaching is particularly skilled at something, I will go and ask to learn from them without hesitation. This is because I believe that reducing one’s ego, and not thinking you are the best or know everything, opens up opportunities to learn new things and also helps build good relationships with those around you.”
You can dream big, but you must take action to see the ‘fruits of your dream.’
In closing, Khoe remains convinced that a dream will remain just a dream if you don’t take any action. Therefore, a dream is like planting a tree that we slowly and patiently nurture, diligently and regularly watering and tilling the soil, and having serious discipline in caring for the fruits of that dream. Importantly, we should also bring our dreams to a place that is conducive to their growth. And even though a dream may not be achieved overnight, if we believe in ourselves and are determined to fully cultivate that dream, one day it will grow and succeed.
