Spark for Viola Ensemble is a captivating musical journey that immerses the performers in a vibrant soundscape, brimming with sparkling gestures. From the very first notes, the composition ignites with a downbow short accented motif that serves as landmarks, guiding the listener through each distinct section.

With each new section, each musical material captures the essence of sparkling gestures in its own way. Harmonics, glissandi, rhythmic figures, and even echoes of Thai folk-dance-like music intertwine, creating a mixture of sonic colors and textures.

The journey unfolds with a vivid opening section, where the music bursts with dazzling energy. As the piece progresses, it transitions into a slower, more introspective middle section, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Finally the earlier introduced musical materials return to build momentum toward the climax, ending the piece in an energetic and lively way!

Spark was commissioned by College of Music, Mahidol University for International Viola Congress 2023.

Spark สำหรับวงวิโอล่าเป็นบทประพันธ์ที่นำพาผู้เล่นเข้าสู่โลกของเสียงที่เปี่ยมไปด้วยท่วงท่าเปล่งประกาย (Spark แปลว่า ประกาย) บทเพลงเริ่มต้นด้วยการจุดประกายของกลุ่มโน้ตเสียงสั้น สีโดยคันชักลง (downbow) ซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็นจุดผ่านนำพาผู้ฟังสู่ท่อนต่างๆ ภายในบทเพลง

แต่ละท่อนจะมีการนำเสนอดนตรีที่เสนอลักษณะของความเปล่งประกายในลักษณะของตัวเอง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการใช้ ฮาร์โมนิก (harmonics) กลีซานโด กลุ่มจังหวะต่างๆ หรือ แม้แต่กลิ่นอายของดนตรีเต้นรำพื้นบ้านไทย โดยทั้งหมดผสมผสานกันเป็นสีสันเสียงที่หลากหลาย

การเดินทางดนตรีนี้เริ่มต้นด้วยท่อนเปิดที่สดใส ผ่านดนตรีที่สนุกสนาน เปี่ยมไปด้วยพลัง และ ดำเนินเข้าสู่ท่อนช้าที่ให้อารมณ์สงบนิ่ง ชวนคิดถึงอดีต แล้วท้ายที่สุดดนตรีทั้งหมดที่นำเสนอในบทเพลง กลับมานำเสนออีกครั้งนำผู้ฟังเข้าสู่จุดสูงสุดของบทเพลง (climax) และ ปิดท้ายบทเพลงอย่างทรงพลัง และ มีชีวิตชีวา!
